Billeting Program
Every season, players from around the country seek to move or relocate to the Connecticut area to play with the Polar Bears. We are seeking families who are interested in billeting players. Player ages range from 12 to 19.
A billet family provides a home for the player, meals, and transportation. It is a place to build deep connections with a player who in many cases is living away from home for the first time. Along with the benefits to the billeted player, it is also a great experience for the host. It’s a great way to become a part of the local community, influence young athletes in a positive manner and extremely beneficial to families that have young hockey players of their own while allowing for connections to other families in the hockey community throughout the Connecticut area. Do I need to be part of the Connecticut Polar Bears family?
No, we welcome all inquiries.
What's in it for me (Billet Family)?
A chance to help a young lady who wishes to train in our Vault and regular season programs. A lifetime opportunity to make friends with a family from another part of the country. Memories that will last forever!
What's in it for them (The player)?
A chance to train with our elite coaches. The experience of living with a family and learning about local values and traditions.
Are billet families paid?
A fee of $500 per player per month is paid by the player's family. The money is provided to help offset expenses and transportation.
How long will the player stay with me?
The Vault program starts in early June and concludes at the end of August.
The regular season starts in September and depending on the team, concludes in February or late March/ early April.

Do I need to cook three meals per day?
We ask that you provide food for the player to make their own breakfast, lunch and snacks. Home cooked meals or a planned out dinner is best. We know families are on the run, so whatever dinner plans you have for yourself, please include your player.
Is there a “typical” billet family?
Billet families may be two-parent families, single-parent families, and empty nesters. The common denominator is a desire by the family to make a difference in a player’s life.
Can a family billet more than one player?
Yes. Two players can share a room. The only requirement is that they have adequate space/living arrangements. Each player is expected to have her own bed, closet or dresser, and acceptable access to a restroom.
Who pays if a player is injured or needs medical attention during her stay?
Guardians of minors will have to sign a Consent to Treat but you will not be responsible for any medical/health expenses. All players must have health insurance and show proof.
Will players join our family for personal events?
We stress to our players that they are a part of the family and encourage them to take part in as many family activities as they can - it’s part of the experience.
Will I have to pass a background check?
Yes. Anyone 18 and over living in the house will have to pass a background check.
How will I be matched to a player?
Potential hosts and players will fill out a questionnaire. You will be given a photo and the player questionnaire so you and your family can choose the player with the best fit.
