Introducing U16 Minor Head Coach, Katie Savage

6/22/2020

Join us in welcoming U16 Minor Head Coach, Katie Savage. Katie is entering her second year with our organization as she served as a Vault coach last summer. A tremendous student athlete in her time at Amherst College, she was a member of the women's field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse teams.

"I have been absolutely blown away by the commitment, character, and culture I've seen each and every day from the players at the Vault. I could not be more excited to work with this group this season," said Coach Savage. "My goal is to not only create an atmosphere for tremendous growth on the ice, but to also build a team culture rooted in positivity, resiliency, and hard work that every player is proud to be a part of."
Polar Bear President Maurice FitzMaurice praised Savage as a coach of dedication and commitment to detail in her craft.

"To play three different sports at a NESCAC institution with the academic rigor of Amherst College is truly remarkable. Katie's coaching experience coupled with her playing experience at the youth, prep and collegiate levels will serve her well in this new role."

Here are some additional fast facts on Coach Savage:
  • 2019 Friends of Amherst Athletics Award Recipient
  • ACHA All-American Scholar, 2017-18
  • NESCAC All-Academic Team Selection, 2016-2019
  • Attended Westminster School & 2014-15 Captain

"Katie is extremely bright, professional, and has a unique ability to connect with our players. I've coached together with her through the years and seen first-hand her ability to teach and lead." said Player Director, Janice Yang. "She will play a critical role in our organization as she is tasked with developing this group as a team and pushing each player individually to reach the next level."

The U16 Minor team will participate in the Vault Summer Training program set to return to the ice in late June. For more information on the team structure, please click here.

The team currently has a couple open skater positions and one goalie position available. For inquiries, please contact janice@ctpolarbears.com.
