SEASON PRACTICES & GAMES STRUCTURE

Rinks at Shelton, 784 River Road, Shelton, CT
Practices are generally scheduled for one hour and twenty minutes. Coaching will focus on player development through high-level training and competition. Goalies will receive 3 on-ice goalie training sessions every month that will be conducted by goalie specific coaches. For more information on our player development model, click here.

U12 Major -- Tier I Tournament Team

This is a great option for players looking to supplement their primary teams with high level training and competition.
Practice Structure
September - Early March
1x Weekly Practice
Game Structure:
The team will not play regular games on weekends during the season.
Tournament Structure:
The team will play approximately in 4 Tier I tournaments. Projected Tournaments:
- July 17-19 | Beantown Classic -- Marlborough, MA
- October 30-1 | Roc City Girls Fest -- Rochester, NY
- November 27-29 | East Coast Wizards Thanksgiving -- Bedford, MA
- January 15-18 | Mrs. Hockey Invite -- Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
U12 Minor -- Tier 2

Practice Structure
September - Early March
2x Weekday Practice/ Week
Game Structure:
The team will play approximately 45-50 games over the course of the season.
Families can expect to travel out of state on a limited basis as most games will be in Connecticut.
Tournament Structure:
The team will play in 2-3 tournaments including:
- May 29 - 31 | Shelton Shootout -- Shelton, CT
- December 28-30 | Islanders Showcase -- North Andover, MA
- Mid to Late February -- CHC State Championships | Connecticut
About Our Coaches
Janice Yang has led Connecticut Polar Bears teams to multiple New England Regional Championships and National Tournament appearances. She has coached from U12 to U19 and helped many players matriculate to the prep and college levels.
As a player, Janice competed for Brown University (ECAC) where she led the team in goals her junior year and was tied for second in assists her senior year. She earned ECAC All-Academic honors in 2014 and 2015.
Before matriculating to Brown, Janice competed for Choate Rosemary Hall and the Connecticut Polar Bears. She helped take her Polar Bears teams to multiple silver and bronze medal finishes at the National Championships. A two-time New England Founders League Champion with Choate, Janice was also selected as a NEPSAC First Team All-Star her senior year. She was a four-year USA Hockey national camp participant.
Emma Lange
12 Major Coach
Emma Lange has been coaching at Loomis Chaffee since 2023. She is a graduate of Westminster School (2018) and College of the Holy Cross (2022). At Westminster, Emma was a tri-varsity athlete, captaining her field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse teams during her senior year. At Holy Cross, she earned a bachelor’s degree in English while playing Division I Women’s Ice Hockey. After Holy Cross, she continued her athletic and academic careers at the University of Maine, where she earned a Master’s in Teaching and played her final year of hockey (2023).
Chris Courtney has been coaching since 2012. He enjoys working with players and building a positive environment focused on development. In his thirteen years of experience, he has effectively coached players from U8 to High School levels. He most recently led our U12 Tier 2 to a State Championship Title in the 2024-25 season.
Mary Stowe
12 Minor Coach
Mary Stowe enters her second season coaching with the Bears. The Shelton native played for the Polar Bears for many seasons of her youth hockey career. She has been with the organization since 2022.
Mary loves working with players and sharing her love for the game. She is currently studying Biology on the Pre-med track at Quinnipiac University.
